TIPS ON PREPARING YOUR HOUSE FOR SALE
Everyone has some idea of what needs to be done to get their house ready to sell. We here at JACK EDSON REAL ESTATE AND MORTGAGE have put together a check list, derived from years of experience, to help you hit all of the important areas.
- No matter what the season, consider it Spring and do your “Spring Cleaning”.
- First, take the time to clean, remove excess accessories, caulk bathtubs, sinks, and lavatories. Clean all of your windows and mirrors so they sparkle. Be certain every light bulb in the house works. Lots of light makes a house brighter and feel warmer. This way, buyers will see your house in its best light.
- Keep kitchen countertops clean and free of clutter. Organize kitchen cabinets and cupboards.
- Clean the oven, as well as all other appliances. Polish the kitchen sink faucet.
- Polish the tubs, toilets and all bathroom sinks.
- Refresh things with fresh paint. Off-white or beige walls make a room look bigger and lighter.
- Arrange the furniture and remove unused items so each room appears as spacious as possible.
- Check all of your closets to be sure the clothes are neatly arranged. Keep as few items as possible stored in overhead shelves and on floors. The more spacious they look, the easier it will be for the buyers to imagine their things in your home.
- Go through the attic and garage. Organize them so they appear as spacious, neat and as clean as possible. This is great time to have a garage sale!
- Clean your blinds, and have all of the drapes and curtains cleaned, if needed.
- Shampoo the carpets and refinish the wood floors. Consider replacing your carpet if it is worn. You may not recover the cost, but your house will “smell new” and may sell faster.
- Get out your tool kit. Tighten loose doorknobs, pulls on drawers and cabinets, towel racks and switch plates. Repair and clean the caulking around all of your tubs, showers and sinks. Repair or replace any leaky faucets and remove the water stains.
